I'm telling this story today, and I didn't realize until I told it how funny this story really is. This is probably one of the funniest things that my brother ever said, which is saying a lot, since his sense of humor is a 5 year older version of mine.
We were at this golf tournament last year hosted by T-Mobile and you could tell right away that they put some bucks down for this one. It was at 'Tour 18' in Houston which has a replica of 18 of some of the most famous holes in the world. After parking my redneck truck between a BMW and a Lexus, I met up w/ Jim, we checked in and headed for the driving range to warm up before the tournament started. Boy, was this ever 'foofy'. They had the driving range setup like a bunch of PGA hotshots were playing. The golf balls were already out there and stacked in this nice, neat pyramid shape and all these business type snooties where lined up whacking balls down the range and here come the 'Baker boys'.
Now you really have to put yourself in the scene to appreciate this. I get up in my spot, Jim is a few feet away in the next spot over and before I even get my first ball on the tee, I back up a couple steps and my big clutsy foot goes right into the pyramid stack of balls behind me, flooding a large area of grass with what looked like an explosion of golf balls. Of course, as this happens, time freezes. Everyone on the range turns their head to see who the stooge is and there I am, looking like an idiot wondering if I should start scrambling or just continue to stand with my hand on my head in utter disgust of myself. So, of course, any break in silence would be welcome, and in true 'Jim fashion' my brother comes in to assist with a situation that can't possibly get worse and says boastfully, ...."Yeah, I'm with him!"
I could have died....
